Liver Failure
Diet
A person
who was diagnosed to have liver problems is given prescription
by doctors and dieticians. These liver failure diets that are
given to different patients may vary for every individual. The
diet to be given will depend on the cause and stage of the
liver disease of a particular person. There are other health
conditions that are needed to be considered before giving a
patient a liver failure diet. There maybe patients with liver
problems that have diabetes too, or may be a patient may have
heart problems along with his liver problems. The diet that has
to be administered must satisfy both or all existing health
conditions of the patient.
In most
cases, liver failure diet consists of taking meals in small
amounts every two hours. This makes digestion and absorption of
food easier and faster, thus the liver will not be strained.
Liver failure diets concentrates on the goal of balancing the
necessary nutrients needed by a damaged liver. Vitamins must be
taken in moderation depending on the severity of liver damage
of any patient. Minerals such as calcium, iron and sodium also
have significance in proper balance and function of the body.
When the liver is damaged, calcium content of the body may
decrease. Calcium supplement may be necessary. Sodium and iron
on the other hand, must be taken with supervision so the
damaged liver could function better.
Proteins
and Amino Acids, like sodium and iron, must also be taken with
moderation and supervision. Animal proteins may be harmful to
the damaged liver, so it is recommended to avoid these. Patient
may instead be given vegetable proteins.
Carbohydrates
should also be taken in moderation. The diet must be low in
saturated fats so as not to add up to the clogging of arteries
and increase the amount of bad cholesterol in the body. This
may make the damaged liver to work harder.
A
well-balanced diet is absolutely essential for all human
beings. Liver failure diet is much more important for a person
who is suffering from liver disease so as to enable him to
recover from the disease more quickly and more
effectively.
