Gallbladder Problems

There are many gallbladder problems that may arise if certain conditions develop. The good part about these problems is that they are usually only mild to moderately painful and discomforting. However, in some cases problems with the gallbladder can cause an attack and this is very severe in nature and can cause excruciating pain.

Most of the gallbladder problems that people experience are caused by gallstones which form and either become inflamed or get too large so that they block the passage of the bile to other parts of the digestive system. These gallstones may also get into the biliary ducts and travel to other organs, which is a very painful thing to experience. The problems appear in the form of attack symptoms which include pain in the upper abdomen on the right side of the body, nausea, vomiting, bitter fluids that come up after eating certain foods, biliary colic, diarrhea, belching and gas.

The treatment of gallbladder problems is generally a simple thing. There are only a couple of things that can be done. If the pain is not that severe and if gallbladder attacks occur only infrequently, then an over the counter pain killing medication will suffice. The best OTC medications to use if the gallbladder is causing problems are paracetamol or acetaminophen, both of which are very common, available in almost every store and inexpensive to purchase.

If gallbladder problems continue to happen on a regular basis or become more severe in nature, then the treatment will depend on the cause. If the gallbladder is diseases, full of big gallstones or has cancerous polyps then the doctor will always choose to have it completely removed. This will have no effect on the quality of life, just that it will improve. The gallbladder is not a vital organ and bile can flow directly without having to first be stored in this organ. Another method of treating gallbladder problems caused by gallstones is ESWL or shockwave therapy. These shock waves will hit the gallstones and smash them into small pieces so that the body can rid itself of them without them being able to cause any pain.
